What is included with the cost of tuition?

Tuition includes BOTH Labor and Postpartum Doula Certifications, indefinite Access to our Sister Doula Resource Center, advertisement of your birthing services and bio on our website, AND access to our online Doula communities.

Do I have to attend a birth to receive my certification?

No.

Often when a novice Doula attends a birth for certification purposes, they are asked to do so free of charge. Birth work is selfless work and requires equal exchange of energy, whether it is an exchange of money, services, or goods. To hold space for a birthing family is sacred work and should not be solicited for free..EVER!

Additionally, we are living in a time where birthing teams have been limited to a bare minimum. Attending a hospital birth as a student doula alongside a seasoned Doula can be challenging due to the limitations of personnel allowed in the birthing space. We feel these are unnecessary barriers that can delay and event prevent a qualified set of hands from serving an expectant family. Therefore, certification births are not required to become certified in labor and postpartum support.dd an answer to this item.

What are the requirements of certification?

Requirements of certification include:

Successful completion of all interactive courses and demonstrate competency in ALL course modules
Demonstrates competence of the client/doula interview process
Demonstrates competence in basic massage and positioning
Demonstration of competence in creating and implementing a personalized, effective birth plans

Do I need a certification to be a doula?

The short answer is no. Doula are non-medical personnel so certifications are not required. . However, most birthing centers and hospitals DO NOT allow doulas to attend births without showing proof of certification. States that allow doulas to bill for medicaid for their services will also require that you are certified. Most importantly, a certifications allows your clients to know that you were formally trained and have the skills to adequately assist them. Being certified as doula builds trust and rapport with your those that you serve.

What does your curriculum include?

Our curriculum includes a plethora of topics that facilitate competent, compassionate support. We cover topics that include, but are limited to The Role of the Doula/ Midwife, Supporting Special Populations, Anatomy, and Physiology of the Expectant Mother, The Role of the Father/Partner during Birth, Physical, Mental and Physical Support of the Birthing Family, Assessing and Supporting the Nutritional Needs if the Birthing and Postpartum Mother, Breastfeeding Support, Infant Care Basics, The Business of Being a Doula… and so much MORE!!!

How long does certification last?

Certification is indefinite as long as you are actively supporting families. So that we are serving effectively, we do offer continuing education units every two years (at no extra cost), to be sure that we are abreast of current birthing trends.
